Regular hygiene cleanings
Our state certified, licensed and fully trained office staff performs dental prophylaxis, examinations, and radiographs at your recommended intervals. Although a large portion of the population has cleanings performed every six months, there is also a large percentage that must have cleanings more often. It is important to follow through with all hygiene maintenance appointments in order to prevent problems and catch problems early on.
Digital Radiographs
Our office has been using digital radiographs rather than film radiographs since January 2001. Digital radiographs allows the doctor to measure specific parts of the teeth such as the nerve canal and to measure bone levels as well as change the color to help detect caries and other dental problems. With digital radiographs Dr. Porterfield is also able to zoom in on specific areas of concern. This technology allows you to better understand what is going on in your mouth.
Intra-oral Camera
An intra-oral camera is a camera specifically designed to take close up photos of your teeth and smile. This camera is used to explain where problems exist. Because the camera is connected to the computer along with the digital x-rays, you will be able to see what Dr. Porterfield is talking about much larger than if it was seen with a hand-held mirror.
Periodontal treatment, including the revolutionary PerioProtect system
Dr. Porterfield and her office staff perform conventional periodontal treatment but also use the revolutionary PerioProtect system. This is a non-surgical at home periodontal treatment that uses trays similar to a mouth guard that are custom designed for your mouth.
Crowns & Bridges
Our office uses only local laboratories to fabricate all crowns and bridges and we only use the highest content of gold and precious metals to insure the health of your mouth. We do all porcelain, porcelain fused to precious metals, and gold crowns/bridges in our office.
Dental Implants
Depending on your specific case, Dr. Porterfield will either place the implant in her office or refer you to a specialist to have your implant placed. She does single unit implants as well as implant supported partial and full dentures.
Partial and Full Dentures, including metal free, flexible partials
Our office offers traditional dentures and partials as well as clear clasp metal partials and flexible metal free partial dentures. All dentures and partials are fabricated locally. Dr. Porterfield does not do one-day dentures because she believes more time is needed to insure proper fit, esthetic, and functionality.
Composite, mercury free tooth-colored fillings
Our office does not do amalgam fillings. Dr. Porterfield uses composite or tooth colored material for all fillings. This provides you a better esthetic filling as well as prevents some of the problems associated with amalgam fillings such as mild expansion. Unlike amalgam fillings, if decay occurs under or around a composite filling, the entire filling does not necessarily have to be replaced. This allows more natural tooth structure to remain unaffected.
